Damascus (Agenzia Fides) - Syrians "have the strength and determination to rebuild their Country, and in this delicate phase every authentic lover and friend of Syria can offer an important contribution to getting the country out of the atrocious years of war. This is what Syrian President Bashar Assad expressed in a meeting with Syrian Catholic Patriarch Ignace Youssif III Younan, whom he received in Damascus together with a delegation of the Syro-Catholic Church. According to the Syrian government agency SANA, during the meeting Patriarch Ignace Youssif III congratulated the President for having "prevailed over terrorists" (called "takfiri", according to the terminology used by the media close to the Syrian regime) who had attacked Syria in the years of the conflict, and hoped that the path to defeat terrorism and rebuild Syria in accordance with the expectations and needs of the Syrian people is completed. During his visit to Damascus, the Syro-Catholic Patriarch also met with Sunni Ahmad Badr ad-Din Hassun, the Grand Mufti of Syria, who - according to Syrian government media - highlighted the Syrians as an example of authentic "brotherhood", stressing that their army and their political leadership have succeeded in prevailing over the terrorist takfiri and now appear united and determined in their desire to rebuild their Country.
