Fr. Delmar Alberto Silva Paez, Scalabrinian, Superior in the province of his congregation that includes Asia and Australia, at the conclusion of the General Chapter of his congregation helps to reflect on the phenomenon of human mobility: today there are very different stories among them and it is important to raise awareness on the authentically Christian perspective with which to look at it.
"Teaching to receive a foreigner in today's world, especially in the richest part of the world, is not an easy challenge. We must first fight a mentality of exaggerated fear: a foreigner has almost become an enemy. Alarmism due to some negative episodes imputed to foreigners continues, without putting the due emphasis on positive contributions. For example, migrants often give an important contribution to the economy of host nations, as well as to a diversification of their social life. And also the push that they give to the demographic crisis of so many western societies, especially in Europe, that struggle to invest in their own future has to be highlighted". This is what Fr. Delmar Alberto Silva Paez, Scalabrinian, superior in the Far East, in the province that includes Asia and Australia, at the conclusion of the General Chapter of his congregation, said in an interview with Fides and published on the "Omnis Terra" website.
