Lilongwe (Agenzia Fides) - "Jesus was incarnated in human condition to save us and died on the cross out of love; it is this love that we must take to others as well. Those who have received the faith are obliged by the same faith to share it with others, there is no Christianity without love and service", said His Exc. Mgr. Martin Anwel Mtumbuka, Bishop of Karonga, in Malawi, in his homily in Tcharo.
Located in the Lakeshore area of Rumphi District, Tcharo community is situated in one of the most neglected parts of the Country, a community that has not been visited by neither a priest nor a Bishop before due to its disadvantaged geographical position.
Mgr. Mtumbuka visited the area on the 13th of October, 2018 as part of the celebration of Mission Month and preparations for World Mission Sunday.
The Bishop managed to meet chiefs, Area Development Committee members and the few Catholic Christians the area and discussed several issues concerning the development of the area. On Sunday, October 14, Mgr. Mtumbuka led the Christians in Solemn Eucharistic celebration which also attracted the faithful of other denominations like Church of Central Africa Presbyterian and Emmanuel Church.
In his homily, he reminded the gathering that all people are called to love and witness Jesus Christ and assured the people of Tchalo that they are dear to Karonga diocese just like all other Christians. He promised to make sure the pastoral and socio-economic interventions that the diocese indulges in must spread to Tcharo and all frontiers of the diocese.
On the pastoral front the Bishop assured the community of Tcharo that the diocese will build a church on a plot that the community generously gave to the diocese, the diocese will also figure out in liaison with its Lusubiro Orphan Care organization on how to put up a community based child care center.
