OCEANIA/PAPUA NEW GUINEA - Resignation of the Bishop of Lae and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Today the Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Lae (Papua New Guinea), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Christian Blouin, C.M.M. The Holy Father appointed Fr. Rozario Menezes, S.M., currently General Councilor of the Society of Maria of Monfort.
The new Bishop was born on August 30, 1969 in Virajpet, Karnataka India, he entered the Minor Seminary of the Congregation of the Society of Maria Monfortans and completed his pre-university studies at St. Philomena's College, in Mysore. He holds a Baccalaureate at the University of Mysore. He completed his philosophical and theological studies in Dharmaram College, Bangalore. He was ordained a priest on November 4, 1999.
Since his priestly ordination he has held the following positions: from 1999 to 2000: Assistant to the Master of Novices and Treasurer of his Congregation in India; from 2000 to 2008: Missionary in the Diocese of Daru-Kiunga, in Papua New Guinea; Superior Delegate of the Montfortans (2005-2008); Head of the Diocese Projects Office (2007-2008); from 2008 to 2011: Psychology and Counseling studies at the Institute of Integral Human Education in Montreal, Canada; from 2011 to 2017: again Missionary in Papua New Guinea. He was parish priest of St. Martin of Porres (Archdiocese of Port Moresby); Superior Delegate and Responsible for the vocations and formation of the Montfortans; Head of Projects for the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands [PNG/SI] (2012-2014); President of the Federation of Religious in PNG/SI (2015-2017); Member of the College of Consultors and of the Senate of the Priests of the Archdiocese of Port Moresby; since 2017: General Councilor of the Society of Maria of Monfort, Rome.
