Taipei (Fides Service) - “In the Fu Ren spirit of truth, goodness, beauty and holiness let us carry the Gospel to society and the world” said Cardinal Paul Shan archbishop of Taipei in his homily during a solemn Mass to mark the 80th anniversary of Fu Ren Catholic University. According to Taipei diocesan bulletin Christian Life Weekly besides the solemn Mass, various other events were organised to mark the anniversary including the inauguration of the new building for the Institute of Medicine, a festival with the participation of students from many different countries former Fu Ren fellows.
According to its official web site http://www.fju.edu.tw/ Fu Ren Catholic University is directly dependent on the Holy See. It was founded in Beijing in 1925 by American Benedictine priests and in 1961 was moved to Taiwan. Today Fu Ren has about 120,000 graduates in different parts of the world. The University in these 80 years has remained faithful to its mission to educate from every point of view on the basis of the principles of truth, goodness, beauty and holiness, in a closely united academic community of students and teachers.
Fu Ren fosters dialogue between Chinese culture and the Christian faith, engages in academic research and promotes genuine knowledge of the world, thus furthering the development of society and progress of humanity. If promotes the principle of human dignity and fundamental rights; it searches for the meaning of life; builds group awareness; encourages cultural exchange; offers religious cooperation; promotes a spirit of service of society.
