"The 11th Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops ", Conference at the Lateran University

Tuesday, 10 January 2006

Rome (Fides Service) - Tomorrow 11 January 2006, at the Lateran University there will be a conference organised by the Peruvian Embassy to the Holy See on the subject “The 11th Ordinary Assembly of the Synod of Bishops”.
The last Synod, in many ways innovative, was convoked by the Supreme Pontiff to discuss themes connected with the Eucharist, however it emerged from the conclusions that the themes considered were numerous and this revealed, according to the Bishops, "the unity of our Eucharistic faith in a great variety of rites, cultures and pastoral situations".
This ecumenical vision of the Church corresponds to history past and present but it is also a challenge to continue to maintain unity of faith in the world.
The Synod’s conclusions, which will be examined by the Holy Father and, if confirmed, will be issued to the Church, constitute an important source of analysis and study for those who work closely with the Holy See but also for those who wish to know more about the Synod.
The conference will also discuss the institution of the Synod itself since knowledge of it is important to understand better its attributions and how it serves the Holy Father.
By spreading knowledge of the conclusions of the last Synod the Peruvian Embassy to the Holy See wishes to show its commitment to the Catholic faith, and also to express the authentic desire of the people of Peru to be close to His Holiness. (AP) (10/1/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:23; Parole:257)
