VATICAN - Another name added to those of pastoral workers killed on mission in 2005

Vatican City (Fides Service) - The number of pastoral workers killed while on mission in 2005 has risen to 27. Another name must be added to the list of 26 issued by Fides on 30 December, that of a nun killed on December 28 in South Africa and reported some days later.
Swiss born Sr Margaret Branchen, aged 74 a member of the Society of Saint Ursula of Brigue (Canton Valais) was shot dead on 28 December 2005 in the small town of Ngqeleni, East Cape, South Africa, on the premises of St. Mary’s Clinic where she served as a nurse and midwife. Sr Margaret had worked for many years in South Africa where the Ursuline Sisters of Brigue have six communities. According to the authorities the nun was killed during a burglary. (S.L.)
