ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of the Rector of the Saint Joseph Interdiocesan Seminary in Alwaye

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 12 April 2018 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed rev. Chacko Puthenpuracka, of the clergy of the diocese of Vijayapuram as Rector of the interdiocesan Seminary "St. Joseph's Pontifical Seminary" in Alwaye, in the Archdiocese of Verapoly (India).
The new Rector was born on February 28, 1967 in Munnar, Kerala, diocese of Vijayapuram, and was ordained a priest on December 19, 1991 in Munnar. He went to the "Infant Jesus" Minor Seminary in Kottayam and the "Saint Joseph" Major Seminary in Alwaye. He obtained a licentiate and doctorate in Biblical Theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University (1993-1998) and completed his studies in Christology at the Pontifical Lateranense University (2005-2006). Immediately after his ordination he was Vice parish priest and Parish priest. After completing his studies in Rome he held various positions in the Seminary: member of the teaching staff, associate dean of theology, animator of theology students, procurator of the seminar, President of the Pontifical Institute of theology and philosophy of Alwaye.
