New Delhi (Fides Service) - The Life and Message of Christ is being shown on television at Christmas in India as part of a morning meditation programme. ETV Bangla launched a series of 15 episodes in Bengali to explain the true meaning of Christmas.
One of the programme speakers Salesian Fr Robin Gomes, who works with the Calcutta archdiocese communications office, told Salesian news agency ANS: “Christmas in India is known mainly for parties, decorations, nativity scenes and icons. The figure of Christ, at the centre of Christmas is less known”. Fr Robin who is the director of Calcutta Catechism Centre “will present the face of Jesus in a context of meditation”, said ETV Bangal producer Narayan C. Chakraborty.
The series includes episodes on: “the star of Bethlehem”; “revolutionary John the Baptist”; “Jesus, good master”; “the prayer of Jesus”; “Jesus the healer”, “the Good News today”; “Peace and Life”. Fr Robin will combine the theme of universal salvation with the explanation of Christmas. “We hope to give viewers a good introduction to Christmas and that our programme may help bring peace truth and joy to every family”, said Robin, who since 1990 has presented a Sunday radio programme in Bengali via Radio Veritas Asia. It is hoped that these initiatives allow the Word of God to touch hearts via video and ether. In this perspective the Church in India is striving to be more present in the media.
