ASIA/INDIA - Resignation of the Bishop of Mangalore and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) – Today the Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Mangalore (India), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Aloysius Paul D'Souza. The Holy Father appointed Rev. Paul Saldanha as Bishop of Mangalore, cuently Professor of Theology at the Pontifical Urban University (Rome).
Rev. Paul Saldanha was born on April 27, 1964, in Kinnigoli (Diocese of Mangalore). He completed his studies in Philosophy and Theology at St. Joseph's Interdiocesan Seminary in Jeppu, Mangalore. He earned a Doctorate in Theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University (Rome). He also holds a Diploma in Depth psychology and formation from the Institute of Formators in Bangalore. He was ordained a priest on May 6, 1991 for the clergy of the Diocese of Mangalore.
Since his priestly ordination he has held the following positions: 1991-1992: Parish vicar of St. Lawrence's Parish in Moodubelle; 1992-1994: Parish Vicar of Our Lady of Miracles Parish in Milagres; 1994-1996: Parish Vicar of Our Lady of Dolours Parish in Vittal; 1996-1999: Lecturer and Formator at St. Joseph's Interdiocesan Seminary in Jeppu; 1997-1999: Vice Rector of the same Seminary; 1999-2005: Higher studies at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome; 2005-2010: Lecturer at St. Joseph's Interdiocesan Seminary in Jeppu; 2008-2010: Vice Rector of the same Seminary; since 2010: Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome; 2011-2015: Adjunct Spiritual Father at the Pontifical Urban College De Propaganda Fide in Rome; since 2015: Associate Professor of the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome.
In March 2015 he was appointed Consultor of the General Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops; in July 2015 he was appointed Adiutor Secretarii Specialis of the XIV Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 3/7/2018)
