The CEJP is an institution of the Catholic Church and is responsible for promoting social justice among the nations in the world. Among the objectives pursued the dignity of the human person, social justice, human rights, peace, reconciliation, coexistence and the protection of creation prevail.
The CEJP informs the faithful and the parish communities about issues related to injustice in the social sphere with the hope of reducing the sources of human rights violations. The Council has a preference for those who are not well-off and is close to the marginalized and excluded, helps the victims to recover their rights.
"It is about contributing to the advent of a more just and fraternal world", declared Father Pierre Chanel Affognon, Togolese priest, national director for Catholic teaching.
"We dream of a more just society, in which the human person, created in the image of God, regains his dignity. We desire a society in which men, women and children enjoy their basic rights as a precondition for peace and development", added Fr. Affognon.
During these 13 years of activity in the Archdiocese of Lomé, the CEJP has informed, advised and supported more than 500 victims on various topics, including widows, orphans, land disputes, debt collection, family matters, disowned paternity, care of children, inmates, rape, robberies, and other judicial proceedings.
