ASIA/JAPAN - Two new Salesian priests in Tokyo: a sign of hope for the Catholic community

Tokyo (Fides Service) - Evangelisation continues to bear fruit in the land of the Rising Sun. Recently the local Catholic community in Tokyo had the joy of welcoming two new local priests. The priests, both Salesians of Don Bosco, Society of St Francis de Sales, were ordained by Archbishop Peter Okada, archbishop of Tokyo at Himonya parish church on Saturday 17 December, ANS Salesian newsletter reports.
Fr Massimiliano Enomoto aged 42 became a Catholic when he was an adult and studied for the priesthood at the Salesian International Formation House in Manila. Fr Joseph Nakada, aged 32, completed his theological studies at the Pontifical Salesian University in Roma. At the end of his homily Archbishop Okada, encouraged the new priests to follow the example of Don Bosco and be “always ready to talk to all young people those who belong to the flock and those who do not, who are the majority! As Pope Benedict XVI has told us, in the desert of humanity try to be an oasis of peace and refreshment” the archbishop said.
Don Orlando Puppo, in charge of Salesians in Japan thanked Fr Nakada and Fr Enomoto for answering God’s call and he thanked their families and the representatives of the communities from which the new priests come. The day of great celebration had been carefully prepared the parish of Himonya. Present for the ordination, besides young people and students, there were also the Sisters of Charity of Miyazaki, Daughters of Mary Auxiliatrix and many lay Catholics.
