ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of the Bishop of Raiganj

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Today the Holy Father has appointed the rev. Fr. Fulgence Aloysius Tigga, of the clergy of Bettiah, currently Vicar General and Parish priest of the Mother of God Church, as Bishop of the diocese of Raiganj (India).
The new Bishop was born on March 3, 1965, in Katkahi in the diocese of Gumla. He completed his philosophical studies at Vishwa Jyoti Gurukul, Varanesi and the theological studies at the Bhopal Regional Seminary, Ashta, Bhopal. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Indi from Allahabad University, Allahabad. He was ordained a priest on March 3, 1997 for the diocese of Muzaffarpur. He was then incardinated in the diocese of Bettiah, when it was created in 1998.
Since his priestly ordination he has held the following positions: 1997-2000: Parish Vicar and Headmaster at Loyola Middle School, Chuchari; 2001-2004: Parish priest in Chanpatia; 2004-2009: Parish Priest and Rector of St. Peter's Minory Seminary in Dussaiya; 2009-2014: Parish priest in Chakhni; 2014-2017: Parish priest of the Mother of God Church, Ramnagar, Diocesan Consultor, Director of Vocations and Director of the Diocesan Commission for the Liturgy; since 2017: General Vicar and Parish priest of the Church of the Mother of God, in Ramnagar.
