ASIA/JAPAN - Japan Catholic News published by the Bishops’ Conference to move on-line

Monday, 19 December 2005

Tokyo (Fides Service) - Catholic Church news in Japan is about to land on the world wide web. As from January 2006 Japan Catholic News, the newsletter of the Japanese Catholic Bishops’ Conference will be on-line. The bulletin which has informed Catholics in Japan and elsewhere of the activity and events of the Catholic community in Japan for the past 57 years was until now produced and printed in Tokyo by the Bishops’ commission for communications and media. Now, according to the publishers Japan Catholic News will be moved on-line to reach more people at lower cost and in direct contact with Church realities all over the world.
Like the printed version which is “retiring” the newsletter on line will be in Japanese and in English, a precise editorial decision to render the contents accessible and free to all Internet users. The news was welcomed by priests, religious and ordinary Catholics and is seen as a way to make the Church better known and appreciated and also to promote the growth of Catholic communities.
