AFRICA/UGANDA - Appointment of National Director of the PMS, Fr. Pontian Kaweesa

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 18 January 2018 Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed the rev. Fr. Pontian Kaweesa, of the diocesan clergy of Kiyinda-Mityana, as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Uganda for five years (2018/2023).
The new National Director was born on February 14, 1963 in Nkozi, and was ordained a priest on July 16, 1994 for the diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana. After his primary studies he began his priestly formation at the minor Seminary in Nswanjere, then in Nyenga and in Bukalasa. He studied philosophy at Katigondo Major Seminary in Masaka, and obtained a master's degree in spirituality and a license in theology at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Chicago. After his ordination he was a lecturer at St. Mbaaga major Seminary, chaplain of sportsmen and legio Mariae, diocesan director of the PMS in the diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana, president of the board of St. Kizito Bbanda senior secondary school, member of the council of Ggaba primary teacher's college, chairman of the board of Busuubizi core primary teacher's college.
