Bhubaneswar (Agenzia Fides) - The first recently ordained priest in the district of Kandhamal, in the Indian state of Orissa, theater of anti-christian violence in recent years, arrives in Argentina. The new missionary, Fr. Sanjeev Kumar Bishyoi, confirmed to Agenzia Fides that he is "ready to go to Argentina", to carry out his pastoral service.
Archbishop John Barwa, also a Verbite, at the head of the community of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar, ordained Father Bishyoi in the Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Kattingia on January 22, in the presence of over 5,000 faithful.
"Priesthood is a gift from God. You have been chosen for his Kingdom: Christian faith is not limited to a place or a country, it is in the missionary's work to announce the Gospel in every corner of the world", said the Archbishop addressing the priest in his homily.
As Archbishop Barwa told Fides, "sharing the faith of the Indian Christians of Orissa, with the faithful in Argentina will be for Father Bishyoi the first step in becoming a good missionary".
Fr. Bishyoi was born on March 20, 1984 in the village of Adibonga. He has three brothers and five sisters and is the youngest of the family.
There are already two other Indian Verbite missionaries in Argentina. The Society of the Divine Word (SVD) has been present in Argentina since 1898 and manages parishes, schools and seminaries in four dioceses: Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, La Plata and Paraná. (PN) (Agenzia Fides, 30/1/2018)
