AMERICA/MEXICO - World Ethics Forum 27 to 29 January in Mexico: reflect on major problems in society in the light of the dignity and transcendent destiny of every human person

Madrid (Fides Service) - It was announced on 7 December in the Spanish capital Madrid that a World Ethics Forum will be held from 27 to 29 January in Mexico City and in ten other cities in Mexico involving 80 prominent world figures and expected to draw at least 20,000 participants. The World Ethics Forum will be a political event to propose and ratify ethics as a fundamental rule of conduct in national and international public life. The Forum, promoted by organisations, communities and individuals of different cultures, race and thought, will discuss present-day difficulties in society in the light of the ethic values deriving from the dignity and transcendent destiny of every human person. Co-ordinator general of the Forum Federico Müggenburg director of the Centre of Political and Social Studies in Madrid said “it is indispensable to establish an ethical position and universal principles with a sense of transcendent humanism to orient and guide all economic, political and cultural life”.
The slogan of the Forum is “Veritas liberavit vos” Truth makes us Free and it is based on the following principles: the dignity of the human person, transcendent destiny, justice, freedom, responsibility, solidarity, subsidiarity, common.
The World Ethics Forum will be the culmination of ten local forums in different Mexican cities animated by individuals and organisations experts on the following themes: politics and participation; family and life; youth and challenges of the future; justice, work and patrimony; education, culture and ecology; security, institutions and social peace; means of social communication; religion in the life of society; women: identity, dignity and mission; Ethnicity, migration multicultural society. Each local forum will draft ten point statements to present during the main Forum on Sunday 29 January in Mexico City.
Eduardo Hertfelder president of the Spanish Family Policy Institute one of the Forum organisers said the family must be recognised as Patrimony of Humanity by governments and international bodies and therefore receive proper support with specific polices.
