ASIA/JAPAN - Appointment of the Rector of the interdiocesan Seminary "Japan Catholic Seminary"

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed the rev. Francis Xavier Hiroaki Nakano, of the diocesan clergy of Kagoshima, as Rector of the Interdiocesan Seminary "Japan Catholic Seminary".
The new Rector was born on April 15, 1951 in Kagoshima city and was ordained a priest on April 2, 1978 for the diocese of Kagoshima. He went to the minor Seminary in Nagasaki and then to the Fukuoka Saint Sulpice Major Seminary. He then studied dogmatic theology at the Pontifical Urbaniana University. Among the positions held: director of the diocesan monthly newspaper, parish priest in different communities, rector of the Minamikyushu Minor Seminary, diocesan chancellor. Since August 2011 he has been the formator in the "Japan Catholic Seminary", of which he was vice-rector since April 2013. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 15/1/2018)
