Baghdad (Agenzia Fides) - The United States has decided to allocate at least 75 million dollars to support the reconstruction of villages and infrastructures of the regions freed from the control of the Islamic State, and to favor the return of refugees - mostly Christians and Yazidis - who fled from the Nineveh Plain and the city of Sinjar. This was confirmed in a conversation with ankawa.com, by the US diplomat Douglas Seelman, US ambassador to Iraq. The US representative reiterated his country's intention to play a leading role in the International Conference on the Reconstruction of Iraq, scheduled in Kuwait City starting from February 12, underlining that in this framework the support for refugees who escaped from Sinjar and Nineveh Plain is a priority for the current government in Washington.
Mahdi al Allaq, secretary general of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, announced that the reconstruction of the areas of Iraq reconquered after the years of jihadist rule requires the financing of at least 100 billion dollars. Representatives of the World Bank and of seventy Countries are expected at the International Conference scheduled in Kuwait City, which should last at least three days. (GV) (Agenzia Fides, 11/1/2018)
