Temuco (Agenzia Fides) - "The enthusiastic response of the Pope's volunteers was a great surprise for Chile and for her Church", says to Fides Francisco Elorrieta, vice director of the Volunteering Department for the Pope's visit to Chile, which will take place from January 15 to 18, commenting on the huge number of volunteers, over 19 thousand, of all ages and areas of the Country, who signed up to collaborate in the logistical aspects of the papal visit. In addition, according to the National Commission in charge of the visit, among the volunteers there are more than 107 members who are over 70 years of age, others in wheelchairs and many foreigners.
"The mass of sending that we will celebrate for the volunteers of Santiago - continues to explain the vice director - is the living proof of the joy and hope that is felt in Chile during these days before the visit". "It has been a period of organization, full of enthusiasm and joy that is added to the preparations of the volunteers in Temuco and Iquique - explains Elorrieta, expressing his satisfaction for the excellent work done by all the volunteers. Truly the result will be a generation marked by a spirit of service, dedication and union with our Church", he told Fides to conclude.
With the slogan "My volunteer service is nourished in Christ", about 8,000 papal volunteers will participate in the "Mass of sending" on Saturday 13 January, starting at 2 pm, at the Movistar Arena in the capital. The event will be characterized by musical moments, testimonies, formation and moments to approach the sacrament of reconciliation, and will end with the Eucharistic liturgy which will be presided by Cardinal Ricardo Ezzati, Archbishop of Santiago, Chile.
Even in the other regions that the Pope will visit, the masses for sending of the volunteers are being prepared. In Iquique it will be held on the same day, Saturday 13 January, while in Temuco on Monday 15 January. (LG) (Agenzia Fides, 11/01/2018)
