Puno (Agenzia Fides) - The National Program Against Family and Sexual Violence of the Ministry of Women has released a report informing that up to the month of November, 3 thousand 327 cases of violence were recorded in the Puno region and 86 thousand 104 in all of Peru (see Fides 14/09/2017).
"The provinces with the highest number of physical, psychological and sexual assaults are Puno and San Román", wrote local radio station Radio Onda Azul de Puno to Fides.
In Puno, 93% of the complaints are for mistreatment. Half of the cases are victims of physical assault and 48% of psychological violence.
"The periods of the year in which these crimes are recorded are mainly those related to holidays, carnival and other patronal festivals", says a statement by the regional program manager.
"To raise awareness about violence among members of various families, we are working to implement new services, through the Women's Emergency Centers (CEM) in police stations. The plan for 2018 is the creation of 50 emergency centers for women in police stations with the aim of providing services, helping victims of violence through 4 services. In fact, every CEM will have a lawyer, psychologist, assistant and social promoter", continues the note.
According to CEM statistics, over 69% of sexual violence registered in the country are victims of children under 18 years of age. 11.8% are between 18 and 25, 7.6% between 26 and 35. The rest is over 36 years of age.
The diocese of Puno has a population of 713,342 inhabitants, of whom 627,740 are Catholics and 9,766 baptized in 2016. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 29/12/2017)
