EUROPE/SWITZERLAND - The light of Christ illuminates Europe: theme for 3rd European Ecumenical Assembly

Friday, 2 December 2005

Sangallo (Agenzia Fides) - The Conference of European Churches KEK and the Council of European Episcopal Conferences CCEE and announced the winner of a competition for a Logo for the 3rd European Ecumenical Assembly AEE3 on the theme: “The light of Christ illuminates all. Hope for renewal and unity in Europe”. The winner was Italian graphic designer Gabriele Riva from Belluno, Italy.
“The logo is a cross which extends and widens its base to embrace the world”, the designer explains. “It is the light of Christ which illuminates Europe. The extension of the cross becomes a road, the path to reconciliation among Christians. The colours used are blue for the earth and yellow for the light. With red these colours represent the national colours of Rumania where the assembly will culminate”.
The Assembly is convoked by CCEE and KEK. It consists in a process of four stages: stage one: meeting of 110 delegates of Churches and Bishops’ Conferences and ecumenical bodies in Rome 24 - 27 January 2006; stage two: a series of national and/or regional ecumenical meetings; stage three: a second meeting of the 110 delegates at Lutherstadt-Wittenberg, in Germany. The Assembly with about 3,000 delegates will culminate in Sibiu, Rumania, 4 - 9 September 2007. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 2/12/2005; righe 17, parole 234)
