Cairo (Agenzia Fides) - The Orthodox Coptic Patriarchate has established an Integrated Center for Doctrinal Studies in the suburban district of Maadi, south of Cairo, which is added to the already existing Institute of Studies and Counseling on Marriage Issues. The new center of Doctrinal Studies reports the local media - will be called Sant'Atanasio, the Bishop of Alexandria of Egypt who in the fourth century was the great confessor of faith in the divinity of Christ proclaimed at the Council of Nicea (325 AD) and denied by the Aryan heresy. The Sant'Atanasio Center for Doctrine "will operate under the supervision of Patriarch Tawadros II and Anba Daniel, Bishop of the Orthodox Coptic Diocese of Maadi, and will use the contribution of other Coptic bishops of solid theological formation.
Last April (see Fides 26/4/2017), the doctrinal department of the Copt Orthodox Bishops’ Commission had issued a warning to the faithful concerning the activity of Jehovha Witnesses in Egypt. In an official statement, re-launched by Agenzia Fides, the doctrinal department of the Copt Orthodox Church explains that Jehovah Witnesses belong to a sect started in the United States in the early 1900 , whose members do not recognize the divinity of Jesus Christ. The same doctrinal department warned in particular about articles and messages published on a website in Arabic with the title “Orthodoxy and Bible”, explaining that behind the activity of this online website are Jehovah Witnesses whose intention is to confuse the hearts of Christians and to draw them away from the Faith carefully guarded and proposed by the Copt Orthodox Church.
