Kaohsiung (Fides Service) - “Today I would like to thank Mgr Theodore Labrador OP rather than commemorate him. To thank him because through the working of the Holy Spirit he founded a congregation of Chinese Dominican Nuns who have been of great help for the diocese’s work of evangelisation. His great missionary spirit lives on in our hearts”. These words were pronounced with emotion by Bishop Peter Liu, coadjutor of the diocese of Kaohsiung during a solemn Mass to commemorate Dominican Archbishop Theodore Labrador, Archbishop of Fu Zhou, in mainland China Fu Jian province from 1946 to 1951.
According to Christian Life Weekly, published by Taipei diocese the Mass on the 25th anniversary of the Archbishop’s death was attended by many Dominican men and women religious, Tertiaries and friends, Trappists, and ordinary lay Catholics. “His life was centred on evangelisation- Bishop Peter Liu said - and we hold dear the words of his last testament recommending us to persevere in the faith”.
