Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - "We will not be a different Country unless we overcome naivety, passivity and indifference", concludes the final message of the meeting of the Pastoral Care for Social Action of the National Bishops' Conference of Brazil (CNBB) that took place between 31 July and 1 August
The Bishops of the Commission, who met at the headquarters of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Brasilia, wanted to express their assessment of the Country's situation which is experiencing a strong political-institutional crisis with heavy social and economic consequences.
The message was published on August 2, the same day that the majority of the House of Representatives (263 out of 513) decided to prevent the Federal Supreme Court from investigating allegations of corruption against President Michel Temer which could lead to the removal from office.
The Bishops stressed the importance of being aware of the "signs of the times" in order to engage in overcoming the crisis that the country is experiencing: "We are seeking light for the Church's action in Brazil in the face of the new challenges of today's reality", concludes the statement.
