ASIA/CHINA - Bandits attack Catholic convent, some nuns seriously injured, arrival of police helps avoid a higher toll, authorities investigating to bring culprits to justice

Xi An (Fides Service) - On 23 November in the diocese Xi An in Central China bandits broke into a convent of a diocesan congregation of the Sacred Heart and attacked the nuns injuring some of the Sisters. When the police arrived, called by neighbours who heard the cries of the nuns, the criminals fled, leaving five of the nuns seriously wounded.
Police are investigating to identify the criminals. The local people were very sympathetic with the nuns. The Catholic community gathered round to give concrete help assuring the spiritual support of prayer. (Agenzia Fides 28/11/2005 righe 28 parole 289)
