Mosul (Agenzia Fides) - Now that Mosul has almost been completely freed by the militia of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (Daesh), it is necessary to reintegrate as soon as possible all state employees and local public administrations who in the past three years had to leave their job in the territories that had been conquered by jihadist militias since June 2014. This is the urgency brought to the attention of the central government in Baghdad by Christian politician Imad Youkhana, exponent of the Assyrian Democratic Movement (Zowaa) and a member of the Iraqi Parliament. According to Youkhana, the resumption coincides with the need to guarantee the rights of workers in public institutions - including schools, universities and health care institutions - by also implementing refund measures at least partial for public employees who in these three years have not received salaries. The secretariat of the Iraqi Council of Ministers – reports the local media - expressed its support for the proposals for the rapid reinstatement of public employees, many of whom, in the regions liberated from the jihadist rule, belonged to local Christian communities.
In the past, before Mosul and the Nineveh Plain fell into the hands of jihadists, Youkhana had already denounced some public officials in the Nineveh province accused of having set up a corruption mechanism with which many properties - land and houses - belonging to Christians changed their ownership illegally, without any permission from legitimate property holders (see Fides 3/3/2014).
