Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - Vandals have robbed and profaned the church of Santa Rosa de Lima in Caracas. This is what His Exc. Mgr. Tulio Luis Ramírez Padilla, auxiliary Bishop of Caracas denounces, through a statement of the Bishops' Conference of Venezuela sent to Fides.
At the dawn of June 26, a group of vandals entered the parish church led by the Dominican fathers and destroyed the altar to steal the Blessed Sacrament, then broke the urn of Our Lady of Chapi to steal the Virgin's necklace. They then did other damage, described by Father Oswaldo Montilla, the Vicar priest of the church in Quebrada Honda neighborhood of Caracas.
The Auxiliary Bishop of Caracas expressed his condemnation. He also stressed that "for lack of security, our temples, our churches, our chapels and parish structures are violated".
This fact, Mgr. Ramírez said, is to be added to what happened recently in the national church of the Perpetual Adoration, in the area of Concordia, and in the chapel of the "Patronato de San José de Tarbes" school in El Paraíso area, Caracas.
There is chaos in Caracas, as what happened yesterday demonstrate: a group of soldiers entered Parliament and clashed with MEPs and senators who were discussing the approval of the Constituent Assembly.
After the Supreme Court of Justice rejected the appeal against the proposal to initiate a Constituent Assembly promoted by the Venezuelan President, and the protest demonstrations that followed, the Armed Forces are now located in the center of Caracas. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 28/06/2017)
