AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Historical act: with the delivery of weapons by FARC, the peace process continues

Tuesday, 27 June 2017

Bogotà (Agenzia Fides) - A historical act will take place today in Bogota: the FARC (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia), the oldest guerrilla group on the continent, will not exist any more. The act consists in delivering weapons to the UN, an important institutional testimony.
Among the guests and members of the peace talks held in La Havana during the last few years, the real protagonists are: Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos and the Head of FARC, Rodrigo Londoño.
Jean Arnault, Head of the UN delegation, will have to certify the delivery of 7,132 weapons. While Mauricio Jaramillo, one of the commanders of the FARC, told the local press that "our group is fulfilling every point agreed with the Colombian community and the international community". People will see a revolutionary organization committed to peace". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 27/06/2017)
