Córdoba (Agenzia Fides) - "A few days after experiencing difficult moments in our city, it encourages us to find ways to resolve conflicts and reach agreements that guarantee social peace and the common good. We must respect the rights of all the citizens and fulfill our duties as authority and citizens in a responsible manner ": writes the Social Pastoral of the Argentine Archdiocese of Córdoba, in a message in which he invites to honor the memory of General Manuel Belgrano, creator of the national flag, and to renew the commitment to build, with words and attitudes, "a nation of brothers".
In the text sent to Fides, the occasion of the celebration of the flag, which is celebrated on June 20, was a moment to reflect on some of the values: "to sit down to speak with sincerity and transparency is not a sign of weakness, on the contrary, it is a brave gesture of those who want to seek the common good, with particular attention to the most neglected and those who suffer". "It is a tough but very useful commitment to strengthen democracy and respect the institutions, seeking to resolve conflicts through responsible and mature dialogue, avoiding harsh confrontation and violence". "Favoring the culture of encounter can be a good incentive and a clever way that allows us to face differences with a true constructive spirit, leaving aside petty interests".
The Social Pastoral in Cordoba urges governors, lawmakers, trade union leaders, and entrepreneurs to "do evertything possible to reach a culture of encounter that allows fruitful dialogue", and reaffirms the commitment: "We want to be a nation whose identity is the passion for truth and commitment to the common good".
Manuel Belgrano (Buenos Aires, June 3, 1770-June 20, 1820) was an Argentinean economist, politician and general. Illustrious representative of the Creole population, was one of the main protagonists of Argentina's independence from Spain. He was the creator of the Argentine flag.
