Sao Paulo (Agenzia Fides) - From 18 to 25 June, the Catholic Church in Brazil celebrates the 32nd Migrant Week, with the theme "Migrations, biomes and living well", announces the Bishops' Conference of Brazil in the communiqué sent to Fides. The purpose of the Week, according to the Bishop of Pesqueira, Mgr. José Luiz Ferreira Salles, in charge of the Pastoral Care of Migrants, is to announce, denounce, reflect and build a new relationship between human beings and Mother Earth. The theme is inspired by this year’s Fraternity Campaign, and proposes a change of mindset and behavioral perspectives.
The Migration Pastoral Service (SPM) of the National Bishops' Conference of Brazil (CNBB) has prepared various materials (basic text, celebrations, biblical meetings, etc.) to help communities and parishes deepen the theme. During the Week, the UN Agency for Refugees (ACNUR) and its partners promote a series of events to celebrate Refugee Day on June 20 in Brasilia, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro: cultural meetings, movie projections, seminars ...
Migration, according to His Exc. Mgr. José Luiz Ferreira Salles, is strongly linked to the crisis that concentrates wealth and excludes the workers in the countryside and the city. "It is not just a humanitarian crisis, as suggested by the media, but the exclusion of a mass of millions of human beings, canceling rights and destroying the planet", he stressed.
