Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - On Saturday afternoon, June 17, a bomb exploded in the Andean Shopping Mall, crowded with people, causing three deaths and a dozen were injured. The President of the Colombian Bishops' Conference (CEC), Bishop Luis Augusto Castro Quiroga, Archbishop of Tunja, expressed his solidarity with the people and families affected in an interview with Blu Radio.
According to note of CEC sent to Fides, the Archbishop urged the country to reflect on the criminal act, pointing out that these acts of violence are against peace and the efforts made to "overcome war and terrorism" which Colombia has experienced. "This is the agony of the enemies of peace, who want to live a climate of war in our country", said the President of the CEC. He then invited Colombians to work for reconciliation and asked to be able to forgive in order to "build a homeland of loving brothers and not wolves who tear each other to pieces". Also the other Bishops of the country expressed, through social networks, their condemnation of the act of violence, and solidarity and comfort to the victims. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 19/6/2017)
