Tegucigalpa (Agenzia Fides) - In order to avoid the risk of contracting the Zika virus regarding pregnant women, the Health Ministry in Honduras, in collaboration with some international Organizations, has launched the campaign "Safe Mother, safe baby from Zika". The virus is spread through infected mosquito bites, which leads to fever and skin rashes, and is responsible for fetus malformations.
"This is a communication campaign aimed primarily at pregnant women and their partners, and women in reproductive age. Through various channels, we want to reach the entire population as well", said Alberto Vásquez, head of the campaign. "The campaign was launched at a national level on June 1", said Vásquez.
The note sent by "FidesDigital" Honduras, informs that according to the Ministry of Health, since the beginning of the epidemic, in 2016 there were more than 19,000 suspected cases of Zika in Honduras, of which 209 this year and 8 regarding pregnant women. The municipalities with most cases are: San Pedro Sula, Tegucigalpa, Puerto Cortés, Santa Barbara, Olanchito, El Progreso and Sinuapa.
