ASIA/MYANMAR - St. John Vianney major interdiocesan seminary opened in Loikaw, Rector appointed

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) –Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples on 4 August 2016, instituted a new inter-diocesan Major Seminary to be known as the St John Vianney theological Institute , in the diocese of Loikaw, in Myanmar. On the same date Cardinal Filoni ha appointed Rector of the St John Vianney theological Institute, Rev. Richard Gnieri, of the diocesan clergy of Loikaw.
The new Rector was born on 21 April 1954. After attending St. Theresa minor seminary in Taunggyi and St. Joseph major seminary in Yangon, he was ordained a priest on 8 April 1980. He completed his studies at the Pontifical Urban University in Rome. He was rector of the major seminary from 1995 to 2001, and also chaplain of the Marian Church shrine in Jusmuso, Loikaw.
