Mosul (Agenzia Fides) - Christina Kader Ebada is the name of a Christian girl from Qaraqosh who has been returned to her family after being abducted three years ago by militia of the Islamic State group. The girl, now six years old, was united with her parents last Friday 9 June. According to vague information given by local media, Christina was found in the outskirts of Mosul, the northern Iraqi city occupied by the so-called Islamic State group in 2014 and now almost completely taken back by the Iraqi army with the support of the international anti-DAESH coalition.
Three years ago on 22 August 2014, when Christine was only three years old, her mother Aida says Daesh militiamen tore the child from her arms before expelling her, her blind husband with another four of their children. At the time as a result of the kidnapping an international campaign was launched complete with hashtag #savechristina on social media – calling for the child’s release. Other unverified versions were later diffused and considered non credibile – according to which the child had been kidnapped to supply the harem of an old Afghan jihadist.
The family of Christina who for three years have lived as refugees near Erbil the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, voiced in several interviews their profound joy for the return of the child and also their intention to emigrate from Iraq. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 12/6/2017).
