Washington (Agenzia Fides) - On Tuesday, June 6, 2017, the United States House of Representatives unanimously voted Law 390, Iraq and Syria Genocide Emergency Relief Accountability Act of 2017, which authorizes among other things, targeted interventions in favor of ethnic-religious minorities persecuted by jihadists of the Islamic State. The text of the law puts Christians at the top of the list of beneficiary groups of authorized assistance and rescue measures. It also describes the individual and community needs that can be addressed through funds authorized by the new law, especially to reduce the risks of forced migration regarding members of religious minorities present in those regions.
The text of the law provides that members of the Middle Eastern ethnic-religious communities affected by violence, war crimes and crimes against humanity may benefit from "special" humanitarian aid on behalf of the US, enjoying priority levels of attention also in the reception procedures and relocation of refugees from the current US migration policy.
