Guadalajara (Agenzia Fides) - Cardinal Francisco Robles Ortega, Archbishop of Guadalajara, Jalisco, after Sunday Mass yesterday asked to clarify the events related to the assassination of indigenous leaders of Wixarika community in Jalisco "as soon as possible". Regardless of the reason, he stressed talking to the media, it is necessary to do justice quickly. "Allowing certain groups to act, is not a solution", he added in the text sent to Fides, warning that it is necessary to "discourage" these criminal groups with timely intervention and according to State law.
On Saturday, 27 May, two leaders of the Wixarika community in Jalisco were killed after they had won a lawsuit to return some land to their indigenous community. We are talking about two brothers, Miguel y Agustín Vázquez, 40 and 30 years old, who led the protests to demand the return of 10 thousand hectares of land to the people of Huajimic, Nayarit. The youngest man had finished his studies in law to defend the rights of his people. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 29/05/2017)
