Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - On May 21, after having celebrated the Day of Peace for Venezuela, promoted by the Venezuelan Bishops' Conference (CEV), in Chiquinquirá church, Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, Archbishop of Caracas, confirmed the rejection of the Bishops towards the Constituent National Assembly (ANC) convened by President Nicolás Maduro.
"Mgr. Diego Padrón, President of CEV, expressed the feelings and opinion of the Venezuelan Bishops, we disagree with ANC, the government has to solve the real problems we have, and not create another problem with a constituent no one knows how it will be but that has all the characteristics of being something negative for the country", the Cardinal told reporters.
The note sent to Fides by UnionRadio reports that the Cardinal asked for the immediate cessation of violence by State security organs. "They must not launch tear gas against people and, of course, not even shoot or allow certain groups to shoot, because there are paramilitary groups, everyone has seen in the videos, all this should cease immediately". Even Fides, through social media, has seen videos that clearly show tear gas being launched against the population who demonstrate peacefully. (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 22/05/2017)
