Fianarantsoa (Agenzia Fides) - "On the occasion of the centenary of the first apparition of Our Lady in Fatima, two pilgrimages were organized in Fianarantsoa". This is what Father Albert Rainiherinoro, MI told Fides. "The first pilgrimage - continues Fr. Albert - was held in Ambohidempona, at the Madonna Star of Hope, an emblematic statue of the city of Fianarantsoa. The other, for the southern peripheral part of the city, took place in Ilena. During this celebration the concrete statue that replaced the former, was blessed. May 13 is also a significant date for the history of Madagascar because 45 years ago the student revolution ended the first Republic. Almost every year, when this moment approaches, the political situation becomes tense. That is why during both celebrations people prayed for the country that is experiencing a very critical moment: lack of security, extreme poverty, widespread corruption, lack of a rule of law".
Father Albert also informs of an unpleasant episode that happened on the night of February 28. One of the photovoltaic panels of the pump was stolen (see Fides 29/9/2015) depriving the entire village of Ilena of water. (AR/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 17/5/2017)
