Tirana (Agenzia Fides) - Concerned about the climate in Albania, in particular for the absence of dialogue with regards to the resolution of national problems and, above all, on the issue of elections; for the violent and scornful rhetoric that is often transmitted by those who hold significant public office; for the phenomenon of drug production and the spread of drugs, religious Communities in the country published a joint statement yesterday, May 12, sent to Agenzia Fides.
In the text the religious Communities - the Muslim Community, the Autocephalous Orthodox Church, the Catholic Church, the Bektashi Community and Evangelical Fraternity - claim to feel "a great spiritual and moral responsibility towards the believers of our communities, as well as for the whole Albanian society".
Due to the recent situation in the Country, they want to launch an appeal to the "political class and to all those who have institutional responsibility for the good of the Country".
Fearing that current problems may endanger civil stability and coexistence in the Country, "which represent primary goods to be safeguarded always, together with individual and social rights and the dignity of every human life", religious communities appeal to all political forces, majority and opposition, big and small parties: "to build bridges and not walls. Sincere dialogue at all levels is needed, you have responsibilities before the people, and may the good of the people be your most important goal; lower the tones of political confrontation, have respect for truth and for opponents, also to avoid any violent political degradation; ensure a transparent electoral campaign and electoral process in which citizens are involved. In particular, we renew the appeal to every voter so that they do not fall into the sad phenomena of trading votes. We also appeal to all political groups to counter this phenomenon; to create the conditions so that law reigns in the social life of Albania and Albanians". (SL) (Agenzia Fides 13/05/2017)
