Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - Sometimes it is thought that the path of reconciliation also means impunity and to leave behind the serious crimes committed. Reconciliation is true only if it manages to reach reparation and truth with justice", said Bishop Cruz Eje and Archbishop Santiago Olivera, in an interview with a local radio sent to Fides.
The Bishop commented on the recent ruling of the Supreme Court, which approved law 24390, repealed in 2001, which also reduces half of the sentences imposed on the military of the last dictatorship who committed terrible crimes.
Mgr. Olivera attended the Assembly of the Bishops' Conference of Argentina, where one reflected on the events of the period of civil-military dictatorship. A common feeling of the Assembly is that "the Church does not want oblivion". Regarding the possibility that the Argentinean society can begin a path of genuine reconciliation, Mgr. Olivera said, "It is sad, but I think we are still far from true reconciliation. There are open wounds, this is our reality". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 10/05/2017)
