Los Teques (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishop of the Diocese of Los Teques, His Exc. Mgr. Freddy Jesús Fuenmayor Suárez, published a message to the community where, in 8 points, he recalls the feelings of the Catholic Church regarding the national political situation, already expressed by the Bishops' Conference in January, and invites everyone to resume dialogue. "Both the Pope and the Bishops consider dialogue useful only and when there exist the conditions that make it effective", reads the message sent to Fides.
"The situation of anguish and poverty that most of the Venezuelan people live continues to increase, which now also involves our pastoral work and our Christian life. We are called, with our shortcomings and limitations, to open up our hearts and hands to those who need it most", reiterates the text. Mgr. Fuenmayor Suárez calls everyone, religious and men of good will, to be sympathetic towards the poor.
The population continues to suffer because of the lack of food and medicine. Yesterday, May 2, the Fuerza Armada Nacional Bolivarian (FANB) issued a statement which backs President Maduro in his proposal for a Constituent National Assembly. Always yesterday the Rectors of the main Universities of Venezuela (Università Central del Venezuela, Simón Bolívar, Catolica Andrés Bello, Metropolitana and Monteávila) met to express a strong protest against the repression by law enforcement officials, asking the government to respect the existing constitution and convene elections in order to rebuild the institutions of the country. The Rectors of the Universities participated in the Forum "From University towards the Country", where they declared that public and private study places will continue to be at the service of Venezuelans in the pluralist debate, in the reconstruction of the institutions, in the respect of the constitution and democracy.
