Cochabamba (Agenzia Fides) – A solemn concelebration of mass presided by Archbishop Oscar Aparicio of Cochabamba, also vice president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Bolivia (CEB), yesterday, 27 April opened the 103rd Plenary Assembly of the CEB. During his homily the Archbishop underlined : "We live and we suffer the tragic situation of the Venezuelan people, mortally wounded by interests of power and ideology that sow death and suffering".
In his opening address, a copy was sent to Fides, CEB chairman , Bishop Ricardo Centellas of the diocese of Potosi, said: "In the coming month of September we will travel to Rome to make our Ad Limina Visit, to renew our spirit of communion with the Successor of Peter and to give new impulse to our prophetic mission. Pope Francis reminds us with insistence of the necessity of a transformation of mission involving all the structures and services of the Church ".
Fr José Fuentes, CEB assistant Secretary, had previously explained that the Assembly would discuss matters of national importance, and then draft a report to present to Pope Francis, a paper to summarise the work of evangelisation in Bolivia from all the different angles: social, economic, political, and so forth. " The paper will focus on fundamental issues of our reality - Fr Fuentes added -, such as state education and Catholic education in Bolivia".
Another important matter which will involve the entire country, is preparation for (CAM 5) the 5th American Mission Congress to be held in Bolivia in 2018. The CEB Plenary Assembly will close on May 2 with a Message from the Bishops addressed to the People of God.
