ASIA/TURKEY – Armenian Genocide commemorated also in Istanbul. Message from US President Trump announced
Erevan (Agenzia Fides) – Events and ceremonies scheduled for April 24 all over the world to mark 102nd anniversary of the Armenian genocide will include commemoration events also in Istanbul. This is reported by local sources including Armenian-Turkish bilingual weekly Agos, published in Istanbul, according to which commemorations will take place in Sultanhamet Square and at the Armenian cemetery in the Sisli district. Evening commemorative events will be held in the urban district of Beyoglu.
In the meantime diplomat Rafik Mansour, Charge d’Affairs at the US embassy in Armenia, has announced that the American President Donald Trump will issue a message on the occasion of the anniversary of the massacre of the Armenian people in the Anatolia Peninsula 102 years ago. Asked whether the US President will use the definition “Armenian Genocide” (an expression as yet never used by American heads of state) the diplomat said he lacked sufficient information to reply to the question.
