AFRICA/TANZANIA - The Bishop of Moshi: "The loss of moral values threatens our common existence"

Dar es Salaam (Agenzia Fides) - "The population lives in constant fear of kidnapping or sexual harassment, especially women who are afraid of being raped. Eight policemen were killed recently while they were returning from work. It is sad to note that some people rejoiced for the death of these people", denounced Mgr. Isaac Amani Massawe, Bishop of Moshi (Tanzania) in his homily during Easter Mass.
"These are signs of lack of love among the people of the Country. In our thoughts there are things that threaten peace and unity", the Bishop warned. "Crimes are born in our minds and in the end are put into practice".
Mgr. Amani Massawe stressed the loss of moral values in society as a cause of this situation, recalling in particular superstitions, alcohol abuse and drugs, the loss of the sense of life that drives people to engage in futile activities. The most dangerous acts are human trafficking and sexual violence "that are pushing the nation into darkness. These are shameful acts that are associated with globalization, alcoholism and superstition", he concluded. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 22/04/2017)
