Accra (Agenzia Fides)-The youth of Ghana must continue to hope despite the many present difficulties. This was the message sent out by two some thousand young Ghanaian Catholics who took part in a two day evangelisation event in the Accra suburb of Dodowa, organised by the Accra Archdiocesan Catholic Youth Council (AADCYC) in preparation for the 32nd World Youth Day celebrated yesterday, Palm Sunday, all over the world this year at the diocesan level.
Present at the event, the metropolitan Archbishop Charles G. Palmer-Buckle of Accra, the Bishop of Koforidua Diocese, the Member of Parliament for the Shai Osudoku Constituency and priests and religious in the archdiocese.
AADCYC chair, layman Charles Mark Odoi, in his address, spoke of the many difficulties and issues facing the youth of Ghana expressing sadness and deep concern for the growing number of suicides reported in recent months. Encouraging those taking part in the event to always trust in God, and to help their peers to have trust also he warned: “The solution is not for anyone to put his or her life to an end. Be courageous like Mary who didn’t fear public disgrace”.
The President of AADCYC appealed to the Bishops’ conference of Ghana to institute workable counselling centres in various parishes and schools to allow young people to visit the place in times of difficulty. (A.A.) (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 10/4/2017)
