Seoul (Fides Service) - Christian witness in society, the economy and politics is essential for promoting values and the centrality of the person. In a decade of activity the Catholic School of Social Doctrine in Seoul, opened in 1995 has done just this, forming about 2,000 students, lay people and religious.
Recently the school celebrated its 10th anniversary with a Symposium to present the new Compendium of Catholic Social Doctrine. Fr. Remigio Lee Dong-Ik one of the experts present, said the local Church had shown farsightedness with its decision to open a school of Catholic Social Doctrine and he praised the school for “great work to increase awareness among Korean Catholics”. “Today’s society changes so rapidly - he said - and the Church must teach the eternal Truth which is unchanging. Once people understand the Church’s social doctrine, principles and values, they can find help solutions for social problems in keeping with God’s plan for the Salvation of the world.”
The Symposium presented the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church issued in 2004, in the Korean version, the first translation of the work in an Asian language. The translation of the 526 page book was undertaken by the Justice and Peace Commission of the Korean Bishops’ Conference led by bishop Boiniface Choi Ki-San. The book has been welcomed with interest by Catholics, other Christians and also non Christians anxious to know more about the viewpoint of the Catholic Church with regard to problems in society, the economy and politics.
