Caracas (Agenzia Fides) – "We must keep calm, acting in a rational manner, seeking the understanding of others. We have said this in many recent messages issued by our Bishops’ Conference: we must defend our rights and the rights of others, but without resorting to violence, instead following the Constitution and the laws of our country". This was said by Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, Archbishop of Caracas, during the celebration of Palm Sunday mass in the cathedral of the capital .
In a church, seldom so packed, the Archbishop urged the people not to lose hope in the face of the present serious situation in Venezuela.
A report sent to Fides by the archdiocese of Caracas, concluded with the Cardinal’s call to take part in all the Holy Week liturgies all over the country and to pray for God’s help to improve the situation.
Sadly tension in Venezuela persists. Two days of demonstrations were staged in various parts of the country, some with violence. For today the Opposition has encouraged participation in demonstrations in 23 towns in support of a parliamentary process to remove seven Supreme Court magistrates charged with organising a coup "golpe de Estado".
