AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Letter of the Bishop of Posadas: "Christian hope must make us responsible in defending our rights"

Friday, 7 April 2017

Posadas (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishop of the diocese of Posadas, His Exc. Mgr. Juan Rubén Martínez, in preparation for the celebrations of Holy Week, published a letter in which he writes that "it would be hypocritical to expect to overcome personal and social difficulties, crisis of values and forms of corruption, and not decide to be responsible in building a better future".
The Archbishop, in a letter sent to Fides, recalls that at the basis of all this there is incarnation: "God wanted to become one of us and, therefore, bind with human history. That is why we speak of a faith committed to history, human drama, with the search for transformation, with the certainty of the Easter dynamic of death and life, which leads us to eternity".
"We have to keep our eyes open - he continues - to discern and discard those false promises or some kind of easy human hope, without any difficulty and without responsibility in the construction and in the task of transforming our society".
"Christian hope - concludes Mgr. Juan Rubén Martínez - must make us responsible in defending our rights, but above all to assume our duties as citizens. This task begins with the commitment in the little things of everyday life, in our town or neighborhood, in school or parish. We can say that if there are inadequate social, political, religious leaders, it is because of our lack of responsibility and regular participation, including the use of the vote".
Argentina, and especially Posadas, is living a moment of great tension: yesterday, April 6, the first general strike to protest against the government of President Mauricio Macri was held. The great mobilization was promoted by the Central General de Trabajadores (CGT), the largest trade union organization in the country, which saw the vast participation in many fields: transportation, healthcare, banks, schools and in the public and private sectors.
