Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - While the number of deaths due to the landslide that hit Mocoa (see Fides 3 and 06/04/2017) continues to increase, the Government is doing its best in allowing more than 12 thousand children to return to school. In fact, today none of students in Mocoa are attending classes. After an inspection of the school infrastructure, the Education Minister said that students who attend public and private schools, will gradually return to their classrooms after Holy Week, giving priority to schools whose infrastructure was not damaged and where the best conditions for children to attend classes are guaranteed. Currently there are six schools with compromised infrastructure. "Three thousand children are enrolled in the six affected schools and in Mocoa there are 12,000 students enrolled in public and private schools", reads a note sent to Fides. The Minister said that before children go back to school they must receive psychosocial assistance and appropriate support, as well as being provided with a school kit.
